Cat Battles has three modes, and the Cat Battles game modes list is short: Classic, 2 Teams and 4 Teams. You pick one by name from the lobby before the round loads, and the arena you fight in is drawn from the same three-arena pool whichever mode you choose.

The Three Cat Battles Game Modes
| Mode | Teams | How you win | How it plays |
|---|---|---|---|
Classic | None | Be the last cat in the ring | Every exchange is one-on-one, so there is no reason to hold back. |
2 Teams | Two sides | Knock the other side's cats out | You win as a group, so work the same target your team is already on. |
4 Teams | Four smaller sides | Be the last of four | Someone is always behind you, so commit and disengage instead of chasing. |
Classic is a free-for-all with no teammates: every cat is on their own and the last cat still standing takes the bout. In 2 Teams you are aiming at two opponents rather than nine, which makes the fight easier to read but means one wasted throw costs your whole side. In 4 Teams there are always three other groups in play, so picking an isolated opponent and finishing the throw matters more than trading.
Which Mode to Practise In
Start in Classic. Because you only ever have to track one opponent at a time, it is the cleanest place to learn the punch, grab, kick and lift loop before the pressure of other teams arrives. How to win Cat Battles covers the habits that carry into every mode.
Move to the team modes once the loop is automatic. Stomp and Hairball are worth far more with teammates, because one player disrupts a cluster while the rest follow up with grabs and throws.
