There is no health bar in Cat Battles, so the only way to win a bout is to be the last cat left in the ring. Knowing how to win cat battles is therefore about ring position and one reliable takedown, not about dealing damage.

How to Win Cat Battles: The Habits That Decide Bouts
Hold the middle.
The centre of the ring gives you reaction time in every direction. A cat fighting along the edge is one solid hit from gone, and a cat that wins its exchange near a rope still has to survive the follow-up.
Learn the takedown before you rely on an ability.
Grab, lift, carry to the nearest edge, release. It is the most reliable elimination in the game and it works on every arena.
Never stand still.
Standing still makes you a free grab target. Mix movement with jumps and kick inputs, and change direction instead of running in a straight line so an approaching grab misses.
Watch for a third cat.
Fights attract other players, and the most common way to lose is to be grabbed by someone who was not part of the exchange you were watching.
Do not spend your ability at the start of the bout.
Hold it until you are actually grabbed, or until several cats are bunched together and a group effect will land on more than one of them. Hiss is the exception: its 14s cooldown means you use it the moment a grab starts rather than saving it.
Play to the arena.
The Boxing Ring rewards carrying people to the ropes, the Elevators reward keeping clear floor behind you and saving Dash for gaps, and the Subway rewards baiting opponents onto the tracks while a train is due.
Assign roles in team modes.
Have one player create disruption with Stomp or Hairball while teammates move in with grabs and throws. In 4 Teams especially, pick a single isolated opponent, commit to the takedown, then disengage and re-pick.
The Grab-Lift-Toss Sequence
Get close
Get within grab range of the cat you have chosen.
Grab
Grab them and hold them.
Lift
Lift them so they clear the floor.
Carry and release
Walk toward the nearest edge and release over it.
| Arena | Where you aim |
|---|---|
Boxing Ring | The ropes on any of the four sides |
Elevators | A gap in the moving floor |
Subway | The train tracks, ideally when a train is due |
The Moves Behind the Takedown
The sequence runs on the standard inputs: right-click to grab, hold Shift to lift, then walk and release. The full control list covers the punch, kick, lift and ability keys as well, and which ones are worth practising first.
Save an Ability for the Finish
Practise one ability consistently for several rounds before switching. If you have not bought anything yet, the best first purchase is Nine Lives, which undoes an elimination outright while you are still learning the ring.
Furs, sumo gear and emotes are cosmetic only. They never change how hard you hit or how fast you move, so how well you do comes down to ability choice and positioning.
