Nine Lives is the best first buy in Cat Battles at 2,000 coins, and it also sits at the top of the Cat Battles best ability ranking on value rather than hype: it is the cheapest top-tier ability and it erases the cost of one early mistake while you are still learning the ring. If you are saving for something bigger, Hairball at 12,000 coins is the strongest coin-only option.

Cat Battles Best Ability Tiers
Top tier — Nine Lives, Shark Attack, Wind Shurikens, Hairball
Each of these wins a round outright instead of winning trades. Nine Lives undoes an elimination. Shark Attack clears a whole line of cats at once. Wind Shurikens covers a wide area in a crowded ring. Hairball turns the floor into a slip zone that decides fights for you.
Second tier — Fluff Up, Anchor, Hiss
Fluff Up multiplies your knockback for four seconds, which is what makes it lethal next to an edge. Anchor is the answer to grab-and-toss aggression. Hiss breaks a grab instantly but has a long recharge, so it should not be spent on a weak threat.
Third tier — Dash
Free and always available, so it is the ability you will actually spam early on, but its 0.3s window is too short to decide a bout.
Bottom tier — Pounce, Stomp, Catnip
Pounce cannot choose its target in a crowd. Stomp's 0.6s disturbance window is short against a 16s cooldown. Catnip's three-second boost expires before most chases finish.
The Best First Buy for a New Account
Nine Lives, for three reasons:
- 2,000 coins is the lowest price of anything in the top tier.
- A 25s cooldown is long enough that you will have it back several times in a bout.
- It removes the sting of your first ring-out, which is when most new players quit a round early.
Shark Attack and Wind Shurikens rank alongside it, but they are Robux-only and cannot be earned with coins or codes, so they are not a realistic first pick for a coin player.
Where to Buy an Ability
Buy and equip abilities from the Abilities tab of your lobby inventory: open the bag icon, pick the ability, pay, then equip from the same tab. The full ability list has every price, cooldown and effect in one table, plus the step-by-step purchase path.
Getting Coins Toward the Buy
2,000 coins arrives quickly if you redeem the promo codes first — the current list pays 1,650 in total — and then finish a few bouts, which pay coins in every mode with more for a win and for each knockout. How to redeem the codes takes about a minute.
